The guest of this year's Economic Forum of Young Leaders, Mr. Adam Czyżewski - Chief Economist of PKN ORLEN, raised important aspects of the current changes aimed at sustainable production (during the Economic Forum 2020, PKN ORLEN announced that by 2050 it will achieve zero CO2 emission).
- Moving to a sustainable economy does not mean that we start using less energy, it requires that we drastically reduce the amount of materials we consume. - points out Mr. Czyżewski, but at the same time comments on the consumption economy: - Energy production is a producer's problem, but the consumer's problem is the need to thrive while reducing the consumption of materials.
- What I want to highlight is the role of young people. There is no other way - we have to change, but this change means that our level of consumption we see today will fall head over heels. We should use less materials per head to meet our needs, and that is also the role of business. In return, we will enjoy the consumption of goods that we do not pay for today, because we take them for granted: fresh air, clean water, the environment in general. To keep the environment intact, the cost of this must be included in the price of the product. - Mr. Czyżewski adds.
– Young people, more and more often are propagators of sustainable development of transport and energy areas, and this subject is discussed by them, for example in their diploma theses - - The moderator of the discussion, Aleksandra Pepłowska - Member of the Executive Council of the Parliament of the Republic of Poland, Chairman of the Committee for External Cooperation, began.
– What assumptions should be included in recovery programs to prevent recession? What role should infrastructure play in these processes? Does Poland have a chance to become a logistics and transport hub for Europe?
From the very beginning, the Economic Forum of Young Leaders has been striving to involve young people in discussions on the future of Europe and the world, as well as in decision-making processes that shape our reality. During the fifteen editions, thanks to the space for conversation, networking and integration, participants could establish international partnerships, implement joint projects, and even get their dream job. Over the past 15 years, the Forum Program has enriched young participants with knowledge, self-confidence, inspiration for action, and provided perspectives and new contacts. Thanks to this, after many years, many participants returned to the Forum - as event partners, experts and speakers.
Stimulating entrepreneurial attitudes, developing public debate on economic, geopolitical, ecological and educational topics, as well as acquiring leadership competences by participants. This year's hybrid format of the event includes a stationary program covered by the current sanitary regime and a program line dedicated to online participants.
Participation in the Economic Forum of Young Leaders is a tremendous opportunity to meet like-minded young Europeans who share the common interests and values. Do not miss the chance to meet and discuss with experts and government officials who shape the future of Europe. Forum is very well-organized and it gives you possibility to equally split your time for networking session and panel discussions. These are the main reason why I participated in the Forum for four times in a row and still looking forward to be part of it. See you in Nowy Sącz!

I am very grateful that I got the chance to take part in Economic Forum of Young Leaders since it gave me an opportunity to engage in conversation with people whose opinion I share but also to understand better those who think differently than me and to see that we are more alike than I thought. Also, I was able to see other initiatives across Europe, get inspired and take a piece of that back home with me to my local community. Still thinking? I hope you do not! Apply and see where it will take you!

The Economic Forum for Young Leaders is therefore vital for the younger generation to communicate new ideas and connect with other like-minded individuals who have more experience in business to come up with innovative technologies that benefit society as a whole. I did not expect Poland to be so traditionally stunning; culture, architecture and hospitality, after the Second World War I thought that Poland would be more modern, instead of that I truly got the feeling it kept its beauty that I respect and love about it.
